MKB Punjab Petrol Subsidy 2026 – Rs100 Per Litre Motorcycle Fuel Relief
On the night of April 3, 2026, Pakistan woke up to a fuel shock. The federal government raised petrol prices by Rs137.24 per litre in a single notification, pushing the price from around Rs321 to Rs458.41 per litre.
High-speed diesel followed even more sharply, rising by Rs184.49 to Rs520.35 per litre. For most Pakistanis, the increase was not just a news headline, but a direct hit to their daily budget.
Pakistan has over 30 million registered motorcycles. The vast majority of their owners are daily commuters, delivery riders, small traders, and working-class families who have no alternative transport. For these people, petrol is not a luxury but the true cost of going to work.
The Government of Pakistan and provincial governments moved quickly. Within hours, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced an emergency fuel subsidy specifically for motorcycle owners under the MKB Punjab programme.
This article explains everything about that scheme. We will cover what it offers, how it works, and what it means for the millions of bikers across the province.

What Does MKB Stand For?
MKB stands for Maryam Ko Batayen, which is a broader citizen services and relief delivery platform launched by the Punjab government. The official portal is mkb.punjab.gov.pk, and it also has a dedicated mobile app called Maryam Ko Batayen available on the Google Play Store.
The platform was originally built as a grievance redressal system connecting citizens to district administrations and government departments. However, it has now been expanded to handle direct cash relief and subsidy programmes.
The MKB Punjab petrol subsidy is the latest and arguably the most urgent initiative running through this platform.
What Exactly Is the MKB Punjab Petrol Subsidy?
The petrol subsidy announced by CM Maryam Nawaz works as follows:
- Subsidy amount: Rs100 off per litre of petrol
- Monthly fuel quota: 20 litres
- Monthly saving per biker: Rs2,000
- Scheme duration: 3 months
- Total saving over 3 months: Rs6,000
- Official portal: mkb.punjab.gov.pk
In simple terms, instead of paying Rs458 per litre at the pump, an eligible motorcycle owner pays Rs358 per litre for up to 20 litres every month. The Rs100 difference is covered by the Punjab government.
This is not a blanket subsidy applied to all fuel stations. It is a targeted, digital, CNIC-linked relief programme.
The system verifies your identity and vehicle ownership before you receive anything. This approach ensures that the subsidy reaches actual low-income motorcycle owners rather than being misused.

Why Did Petrol Prices Jump So Sharply in April 2026?
Understanding the context helps explain why this subsidy matters so much right now.
Pakistan’s petrol prices are determined by a formula that combines the international crude oil price, exchange rate fluctuations, and the government’s petroleum levy. In April 2026, the federal government raised the petroleum levy on petrol to a record Rs160.61 per litre.
The stated reason was to reduce the fiscal deficit and meet IMF programme requirements.
At the same time, global oil markets had been unsettled by tensions in the Middle East. Supply disruptions pushed international crude prices higher, which fed into Pakistan’s import costs.
The cumulative petrol price increase within a single month reached 63%, while diesel rose by 75%. For motorcycle riders who typically fill their tanks two to three times a week, this meant an additional Rs800 to Rs1,200 in monthly fuel costs.
This is a significant burden for households earning Rs30,000 to Rs60,000 per month, which closely aligns with the subsidy income limits. This is the gap the MKB Punjab petrol subsidy is designed to partially fill.
How Is the Subsidy Delivered?
Rather than reducing prices at fuel stations for everyone, the Punjab government is using a digital delivery model. After you register and are verified, you receive the subsidy benefit directly.
The system uses your CNIC to confirm identity and links to the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department database to confirm vehicle ownership.
The MKB platform connects to NADRA records and Excise data in real time. This means there is no room for duplicate claims or applications for vehicles you do not own. One CNIC gets one motorcycle’s worth of subsidy.
What Else Did the Punjab Government Announce?
Along with the fuel subsidy, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that all motorcycle registration and transfer charges in Punjab have been waived.
This is a significant extra benefit. Previously, transferring a motorcycle to your own name involved fees that many owners avoided paying, leaving their vehicles formally registered to someone else.
Now, with zero transfer fees, any motorcycle owner who was previously ineligible because the vehicle was not in their name can transfer it quickly and then apply for the subsidy.
The government has given a 15-day window for free transfers specifically to expand the eligible pool of applicants.
Is This Scheme Only for Punjab?
No. Sindh also announced a parallel fuel subsidy for motorcycle owners after the price hike. The Sindh government announced Rs2,000 monthly relief for registered bikers in Sindh, to be paid directly into bank accounts. Sindh’s disbursement was expected between April 15 and April 20.
However, the MKB Punjab scheme and the Sindh scheme are separate programmes managed by their respective provincial governments. If you are a Punjab resident, you can read our guide to apply through mkb.punjab.gov.pk. Sindh residents apply through the Sindh Excise Department’s digital platform.
The federal government also announced separate targeted measures for the transport sector and farmers alongside these provincial relief efforts.
How Long Will the Subsidy Last?
The MKB Punjab petrol subsidy is confirmed for three months. This means three monthly payments of Rs2,000 each, for a total benefit of Rs6,000 per qualifying biker.
Whether the scheme will be extended beyond three months depends on the fiscal situation and petrol prices at that time. For now, the government has committed to the three-month period.
Is There a Risk of Scams?
Yes, and this is important. Whenever a large government subsidy is announced in Pakistan, fraudulent websites, fake SMS messages, and fake agents appear quickly. The only official channels for the MKB Punjab petrol subsidy status and registration are:
- The official web portal at mkb.punjab.gov.pk
- The Maryam Ko Batayen app on Google Play
- The government helpline at 1000 (toll-free)
Never pay anyone to register on your behalf. Never share your OTP with anyone over the phone or WhatsApp. If someone contacts you claiming to be a government agent and asks for payment or your OTP, it is a scam.
What Should You Do Right Now?
If you own a registered motorcycle in Punjab and your household income is below Rs60,000 per month, you should register as soon as possible. Registration opened on April 4, 2026.
The subsidy is distributed on a verified, first-come basis, and early applicants will receive their first payment sooner.
